Born to Read
The Born to Read program offered through the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, supports at-risk families in understanding their role as their child's first teacher and provides intervention in the chronic cycle of illiteracy and poverty. The at-risk populations include teen parents, parents living in poverty, parents who did not complete their GED, English speakers of other languages (ESOL) families and families with special needs. In this program, parents are given books to read with their children and taught how to effectively read them. Parents are also encouraged to utilize the public libraries.
